Geometry as Medicine

Introduction

The potentials of inner and outer spatial geometries, as an experiment in creative healing.

Much has been written and discussed about how our thoughts create our world, and the relationships between conscious expressions and life’s journey.

In this essay I am endeavouring to explore and combine several related theories, seeking a union and perhaps potentiating a deeper understanding of our own individual capacities.

Seeking a synaesthetic integration, not predicated upon division, but upon union (yoga), calling for Global Healing – A Tantric Geometry.

Looking at thought patterns – exploring the fractal dimensions to search for relationships within spatial cognition, using geometric tools of measurement of honesty, clarity and transparency, considering not only the manifest hard wiring, but the spaces that hold the wiring in place, the deeply hidden 94% that is called dark matter and dark energy.

 

I will explore a reverse engineering, meeting at crossroads of understanding to create sensory and conceptual realities anew, potentiating neuro-geometric realignment and restructuring, a re-programming, imagining a form of retinal EFT or retinal acupressure to our 127,000,000 visual receptors, birthing an experiment in RST – Retinal Stimulation Therapy.

By removing language from the thought process, you increase the speed and efficiency of your imagination.

Noetics

The Institute of Noetic Sciences describes noetic sciences as "how beliefs, thoughts, and intentions affect the physical world".

 

This subtle form of interaction and relationship is something witnessed by those who choose to live in a conscious, simple, quiet and contemplative manner as their lives become beacons for others, and this has been understood throughout the centuries in meditative communities.

Similarly aggression, anger, impatience and jealousy become the shared languages of inter-communications within hostile communities, and thus their world is coloured or lensed through separations.

In philosophy, noetics is a branch of metaphysical philosophy concerned with the study of mind as well as intellect. Noetic topics include the doctrine of the agent/patient intellect (Aristotle, Averroes) and the doctrine of the Divine Intellect (Plotinus).

 

Karma is the science of how beliefs, thoughts, and intentions affect the physical world, and is the latent key to transform the external world as a mirror of the internal world.

Ultimately this is truth.

Geometry

Geo Metrics = Earth Measure: A branch of mathematics concerned with questions of shape, size, relative position of figures, and the properties of space.

 

Space is the boundless three-dimensional extent in which objects and events have relative position and direction. Physical space is often conceived in three linear dimensions, although modern physicists usually consider it, with time, to be part of a boundless four-dimensional continuum known as spacetime. The concept of space is considered to be of fundamental importance to an understanding of the physical universe. However, disagreement continues between philosophers over whether it is itself an entity, a relationship between entities, or part of a conceptual framework.

We are drawn towards the nodes of existence, generally ignoring the space between things, and this in all matters.

Space is bordered, delineated and defined by a minimal geometry, in effect geometry is supported by and exists due to space, and it is within space that the latent power of change resides.

Morphogenics

Biologists believe that morphogenic fields define the characteristics of species and species differentiation. In straight forward terms, it is the morphogenic field that accounts for why an acorn always becomes an oak.

 

Geometry appears to be not only an aspect of science and mysticism, but an archetype with the power of what might be called a morphogenic field.

In the developmental biology of the early twentieth century, a morphogenetic field is a group of cells able to respond to discrete, localized biochemical signals leading to the development of specific morphological structures or organs.

Archetype

Archetype – An original pattern from which copies are made.

 

It is possible that geometry is the primordial archetype, for its elegance and simplicity is capable of ordering everything in the universe. Due to this ancient intuited knowledge, or noetic wisdom, so many hold geometry as sacred as when we know the form we can discover the function. Geometry might be the language of creation, as certainly many can and have shown the geometric progression from singularity to space/time universe. Indeed, multi-dimensional theories currently so popular in physics, including the string theory, our most promising hope for providing a general unified theory, are strongest in their appeal when laid open by geometry.

The origins of the archetypal hypothesis date back as far as Plato. Plato's ideas were pure mental forms that were imprinted in the soul before it was born into the world. They were collective in the sense that they embodied the fundamental characteristics of a thing rather than its specific peculiarities.

 

Jung treated the archetypes as psychological organs, analogous to physical ones in that both are morphological constructs that arose through evolution. At the same time, it has also been observed that evolution can itself be considered an archetypal construct.

Conceptual

A concept is an abstract idea representing the fundamental characteristics of what it represents. Concepts arise as abstractions or generalisations from experience or the result of a transformation of existing ideas.

 

Conceptual spaces, a process of creating an inner clarity of form, based upon principles of universal creation through geometry, defining through imagination. Non-verbal.

It is geometry that makes sense out of our most contemporary theories in the physical sciences, as an apparently self-organizing reorganizations that reveals itself as a geometric processes.

Ontology

Ontology is the philosophical study of the nature of being, becoming, existence or reality as well as the basic categories of being and their relations.

 

Ontology engineering in computer science and information science is a field which studies the methods and methodologies for building ontologies: formal representations of a set of concepts within a domain and the relationships between those concepts. A large-scale representation of abstract concepts such as actions, time, physical objects and beliefs would be an example of ontological engineering. Ontology engineering is one of the areas of applied ontology, and can be seen as an application of philosophical ontology. Core ideas and objectives of ontology engineering are also central in conceptual modelling.

Traditionally listed as a part of the major branch of philosophy known as metaphysics, ontology often deals with questions concerning what entities exist or may be said to exist and how such entities may be grouped, related within a hierarchy, and subdivided according to similarities and differences. Although ontology as a philosophical enterprise is highly theoretical, it also has practical application in information science and technology, such as ontology engineering.

Mapping

While data scientists struggle with how to make massive amounts of data available to decision makers who need information to make good decisions, individuals from all ages and walks of life are struggling with how to sort through the massive amount of data and communication that come into our lives every day. 

 

Increasingly, those in the middle, the technology interface designers, are looking at shape and pattern to guide them in organizing information.

 

This mapping is geometric, and forms both a pathway and a spirited potential of constructing an inner topographical layout.

Holographic

The possibility that all is contained within one, as one is contained within all, repeated ad finitum, arising from a single 2 dimensional mandala.

 

What we perceive to be a 3 dimensional universe might be the image of a 2 dimensional universe projected across a massive event horizon. This can be understood as certain 3 dimensional spaces can be mathematically reduced to 2 dimensional projections.

 

The holography theory suggests that the entire universe can be seen as two dimensional information on the cosmological horizon, the event horizon from which information may still be gathered and not lost due to the natural limitations of space-time supporting a black hole, an observer and a given setting of these specific elements, such that the three dimensions we observe are an effective description only at macroscopic scales and at low energies.

Fractal

A curve or geometrical figure, each part of which has the same statistical character as the whole.

 

They are useful in modelling structures (such as snowflakes) in which similar patterns recur at progressively smaller scales, and in describing partly random or chaotic phenomena such as crystal growth and galaxy formation.

A fractal is a mathematical set that exhibits a repeating pattern displayed at every scale. It is also known as expanding symmetry or evolving symmetry. If the replication is exactly the same at every scale, it is called a self-similar pattern. 

Psycho-Geometry

The measured relationship of consciousness and environment in reciprocal dynamic engagement.

 

Exploring the potential to construct reality as a geometric interpretation of both inner and outer universe, to expand our harmonic inclusiveness, blending the higher level of fractal inclusiveness of outer and inner realities, and subsequent awarenesses.

There exists a potential for a geometric understanding of the meeting of science and mysticism, through elaborating the meanings in structures, symbols and visual languages, and this way of geometric interpretation of reality allows greater possibility of union of subject and object, ultimately, a yoga.

 

The creation and visualisation of geometric mandalas help us to develop our capacity for directed attention, perception and future trajectory, as it invites us to improve and develop our inner scenery of consciousness, and thus assist in supporting our life's purpose, by creating a visual metaphor of the relationship between the universe and those patterns and proportions that underlie all forms and expressions. We cannot overlook these relationships, as they serve as the Universe's Wisdom enabling the preservation and creation of life.

Structuring emotions, thoughts and actions in a manner by which we can create a new set of possibilities through creative expression, offers the potential of the reconfiguration, in symbiosis with the underlying structures and principles of the universe, following the same geometric rules, harmonically bridging the barrier separating us from the totality of our environment, and the cultural divisions that ensue as a result of this division.

Each civilisation has taken a perspective and generated meanings that underlie the paradigm of the epoch, and described through geometric expressions of architecture, spatial organisations, functions and structures as geometric codes of the aeon.

 

Natural manifestations are universally based upon sacred geometric principles, and thus we should endeavour to join these rhythms, frequencies, proportions and harmonics in a convergent journey.

The geometry of both thought and imagination have been used by mankind to acquire knowledge of the relationship between macrocosm and microcosm worlds. Through exploring art and structure, through depicting thought patterns.

Shapes of Thought

Leading thinkers in many disciplines explored shapes and their geometries, learning Nature’s language so they could translate sound into music, words into poetry, canvasses into art, and observations into scientific theory.

While most of us ‘read’ the language of shape subliminally, many of history’s notable artists, philosophers and scientists did so intentionally enabling their genius creations and discoveries. 

Homoeopathy

A system of complementary medicine in which ailments are treated by minute doses of natural substances that in larger amounts would produce symptoms of the ailment.

 

 

Neuro-Plasticity & Neuro-Geometry

Engaging with the conceptual geometries language and sight.

 

The idea that spatial cognition provides the foundation of linguistic meanings, even highly abstract meanings, has been put forward by a number of linguists in recent years and develops a theoretical framework based on simple geometric principles, their perspective in space, time and the real world.

Geometry and sight, what might be considered as the role of visual representation in geometry, where Giordano Bruno's writing necessitated a crafting of space, and is, in essence, a lexicon of spatial concepts of this sixteenth-century philosopher's role in early modern Europe as a bridge between the spatial paradigm of geometry and that of language, and also what role geometry has in the formation of any language and literature of any place and time.

 

 

Neuro-Plasticity as a stretched geometry (world measure) – your own world recreated as in the Tantras, potentiating Thought Field Therapy – creating an internal geometric mirror of reality.

Neuro-geometrical pattern modelling neural connectivity and association fields and neuro-geometrical architectural models, exploring the functional architecture of the primary visual cortex, suggesting realignment and re-structuring potentials.

Healing Modality (Self-Help)

Geometry for Health - for me, this is just the beginning, an opening exploration of potentials. The use of geometry holds healing possibilities, not exclusively abstract mathematical methods for scientists and philosophers.

 

Deep down I sense that visual stimuli holds a new path to wellness. Consider if the geometry of a healthy organ were presented together with an appropriate resonant sound, the body would somehow imitate, mimic, vibrate or sympathetically resonate to this sound picture and thereby restore its own health. Somewhat analogous to tuning a piano, tuning the body and mind through the sound picture of organic geometry of a cellular level.

As a geometric artist, this methodology has created my understanding.

The proliferation of ‘colouring in’ books and the exponential interest in sacred geometry and mandalas reflect a deep collective spiritual seeking and thus usage in psychiatry as a means of self-medicating and self-help is widespread, and growing in popularity and acceptance.

 

Activate and stimulate. Yogic integration (asana or movement) following visualisation and creation, as a form of geometric cosmic ordering. A dot by dot, line by line, method of drawing our way out of our scrambled mess, scripting our own user’s guide.

Visual geometric modalities exist. Consider EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) which engages the brain's natural adaptive information processing mechanisms, thereby relieving present symptoms. Unprocessed memories being stimulated are the 'scientific' explanation for the efficacy of EMDR.

 

I am told this unlocks trauma, dissolving the potency of destructive memories, through interventions of a geometric nature, whilst activating dormant universal memories.

This is retinal stimulation and mind activation of latent potentials.

Yoga of Sight

The Contemporary Union of Science/Art/Spirituality/Cognition

 

"Your eyes don't see, your brain sees"

My art is predicated upon the eye sense awareness, thus seen through the eyes.

 

We have a dark circle at the centre of the eye, the pupil, and it is through this portal that light enters the eye, and though this lensed portal it arrives upon the back of the eye, the retina.

The light upon arriving at the retina, is in the form of photons, being described as an elementary particle, or quantum packets that carry information/energy from the light source. Thus we have data arriving upon the retina, in the form of photons, the collection of which comprise the image we shall see.

 

There is a collection of photoreceptor cells that reside in the retina, and these are called rods & cones, and there are an astonishing quantity of these, 127 million of them, 127,000,000, and these form a matrix, a collection of pixel like receptors that receive the light signal of the seen object, though broken down into 127,000,000 component parts. A bit like this screen you are looking at.

 

One single apparent image, though created from the matrix of pixels. I can infer that there are 127 Million opportunities for light distribution to be received by the rods and cones. A bit like pressing individual pixels, in a button like manner.

There is more.

The rods and cones lead to 1 million axons, so this equates to a compression of data of 125:1 - the equivalent of 125 wires gathered and leading into a junction box, and leaving through a single wire.

It is around this point of the process something even more magical happens. An aspect of the photoreceptors called Opsin transmute the photon into an electrochemical signal.

Thus, at this point of the journey, light has ceased to be light, the energy has been changed into a chemical signal, and this initiates the beautifully called 'Visual Transductive Cascade'.

 

No light enters the brain.

The cascade is also part of a function called 'Visual Transductive Tunnelling' or 'Quantum Tunnelling' as the barrier twixt matter and consciousness is traversed.

In short, light traverses a barrier and cognition is initiated.

At this point I have tried to describe the process of how the eye functions, and thus we see.

How does this relate to my geometric art? This is my part of the jigsaw.

It started as I was watching a firework display, a really good show, and I was sat atop a hill, with a perfect view of the spectacle.

I was fully engaged with the beauty and spectacle, and started to ponder as to why fireworks have such power to affect me, as I was momentarily transfixed.

I called it the 'Firework Moment'... For in that moment, perhaps lasting half a second, I realised I felt no fear, no doubt, no worry, no anxiety and no pain. I was totally present in the moment, free from considerations of both the past and the future. In short I had no manifest suffering at that time, perhaps even a glimpse of nirvana.

 

I watched many fireworks explode in the November night sky, and finally walked away, deep in thought.

The inspiration arose as to how the moving image of cascading explosions might be captured on paper, and to what intention the drawings might be applied. I made the decision that my illuminated drawings might serve as a form of this 'glimpse of nirvana', and for the brief duration of the experience, how a subtle, profound and meaningful message might be transmitted - in short, a blessing.

Utilising the understanding gained through my research into the functionality of the eye awareness, I formed an artistic expression whereby the 'firework moment' might be integrated with a facsimile of the distribution of photo-receptive cells in the retina, creating the equivalent of a specific pixelated drawing, to activate and stimulate consciousness, directly through my art.

'The Firework Moment' opens the mind to profound understanding, and thus able to fully integrate the realisation of a concept.

Art that presses buttons.

My drawings are individual, and each serves as a specific firework, though the process is built upon as I tend to work in series, or steps, whereby an entire process can be transmitted, like stepping stones across the ocean. Each image carries an individual meaning, and each series presents a journey comprised of these individual components.

The science is of the eye. The art is of the creative. Possibly an integration of the right/left symmetries of the brain, and thereby an integrational approach to consciousness science, one of the most fascinating topics of today.

In the left eye, a simple radiant patterning emerges, whilst in the right eye, fractal versions of each of those images arises.

Certain mystic knowledge states that the left side of the body represents the past and the right side, the future. Thus implying a temporal progression from non-elegant past to elegant future.

Furthermore, current research indicates that "fractalization" is a compression scheme that has no limit, comprised only of constructive interference patterns, so you would be training the body, at least in an information sense, to store things more efficiently, ideally an anti-stress.

 

Lastly, as the brain integrates these two images it would find the very algorithm that maps the incomplete left (past, diseased) to the right (future, wellness, integration).

Uncoupling that algorithm from the visual centre (possibly with meditation, or other metaphysical means) might allow it to become a template for a path the entire body can take - Self Healing.

This is normally done through the third eye, but there would be no problem moving patterns through the physical eyes, since those neural paths are already robustly in use (albeit for trivial purposes, relatively speaking).

As the third eye is stimulated, a physical response occurs, and the wise can learn to 'bookmark' such an experience, and use it as a stepping stone for growth and healing...

Conclusion

I have added these various elements, modalities and theories together, then divided, multiplied and subtracted, by throwing everything into the air, juggling awhile, and seeing how they land.

As I continue to explore the understanding of geometric art I am gaining a deeper understanding of how 'medicine can be applied through the eyes', and currently I am exploring an understanding that we 'feel what we see', we do not 'see what we see' - meaning that light is changed into a neurological chemical after reaching the retina, and therefore the 'viewer' is feeling a chemical effect, not 'seeing' an image...

And my art is about relating the 'feeling' using the image as a vehicle... Therefore I draw what I feel, and describe it in the 127,000,000 pixel format, almost as a musician might play an instrument with 127 million keys, in chords, rhythms, progressions and scales.

And from this biochemical experience/signal, arises a transmission and signalling throughout the bloodstream, through the heart, and therefore subtly affecting entire immune system, creating the potential for wellbeing and healing.
